Slit Pouches

Many people are familiar with the quilled braintan version of slit pouches in museum collections but there are also a few surviving woven slit pouches as well. These pouches are useful items that were carried by men in place of the over shoulder pouches. These pouches were carried over the powder horn or tucked into the sash.

For modern reenactors these pouches are a great place to carry your musket equipment or fire starting kit while hunting or trekking. The pouch measures 16 inches long by 5 inches wide with 6 inches of fringe on each end. The pouch is done in the oblique weave and can be made either a single color or with a selvedge edge.
